Freedom of Speech doesn't exist in public schools

How can you defend not allowing students to pass out fliers for a religious event while letting them pass out fliers for anything else? If you try to argue that this would be establishing a religion, you need to relearn the english language. Evidently, schools in Davenport, IA have found a way, but they're not explaining it to us. This action has resulted in students suing the school. I wish the kids best of luck in getting rid of this idiocy.

*UPDATE:* Just based on some of the comments, I in no way believe in freedom of speech per se in public schools. The way the law is, and should be, school acts to a certain degree in the same manner as a parent. Therefore, it is well within the rights of the school to censor certain speech and behavior. On a side note, some of the people posting obviously need to spend more time learning the language (as in spending time on homework) than complaining about their schools crackdowns on probably what amounts to their desire to curse.

STUDENTS HAVE NO RIGHTS IN SHOOL ANY MORE CLASS HAD A WALK OUT BECUASE OF IT

Nicky Apr 17, 2003 8:32 PM

I know that student's are stripped of their rights at times. But I also wonder about teachers using their class time as an advantage to express their political views to minors in the form of facts. If anyone has any information on this and if there are any statements in the law on it. Please email me at tootsiepop885@aol.com

I do not comprehend how people can be so intolerent of religion. It is religion that has taught me tolerence to others peoples beliefs. I do not have to believe in something to respect it.

I believe that all students need the right to speech freely about whatever they choose. I need all students to have freedom of speech. Sooner or later we will get what we want.

The students at Summit Hill Junior High School and a lot of other schools in the frankfort and mokena area don't get freedom of speech and i and all the other students of Summit Hill Junior High feel that it is not fair that it is in the constitution and that it applys to everyone in the United States and yet all the students all around the world still don't have freedom of speech.even the teachers at our schools don't have freedom of speech and that is not fair at all and not to mention rude.
