Most people get a fair amount of fun out of their lives, but on balance life is suffering, and only the very young or very foolish imagine otherwise. - George Orwell

C-J

Evidently I did a good job last night as I recieved an email early this morning from the senior production coordinator that didn't include a comment on what was wrong but only praise for the two of us working.

For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, I work most nights on putting this up.

Which way do you drive?

Yes & No - a different look at how to drive and how not to drive. This has to be one of the funniest things I've seen on the topic, if not the funniest. Warning, there is music associated with it and it's not for those easily upset.

Robert Plamer dead at 54

Robert Palmer has died of a heart attack. Palmer's music is simply a staple of 80's rock and his videos have been mimiced by several other artists. He was best known for hits such as "Simply Irresistable" and "Addicted to Love."

Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah

I was at work last night until 5am and ended up sleeping until after 2:30pm today. Of course, being sick doesn't help on that one. And what do I do when I'm awake? I spent the day cleaning; cleaning my car, cleaning my apartment, spending time at Target buying things related to cleaning my apartment. Minus getting a haircut and a little work on this site, I haven't done anything but things related to cleaning all day. Of course, what am I going to do tomorrow? I’m going to do more cleaning. At least until my family shows up in the late afternoon.

Overall the past few weeks that I haven't really been blogging has been a pretty regular schedule of schoolwork (boring and way to easy after a year of law school), working on my thesis (I feel way behind and the school dragging it's feet on some things related to it isn't helping), and work. Because of this, and because of how messed up my sleep schedule is now thanks entirely to the C-J, I am now thankful that this semester will be my last in school for some time. I usually enjoyed my co-ops, when there was real work to do, and my previous full time jobs, but I never thought I'd miss a 9-5 schedule. But I'm ready to put in my 40 hours a week at some 9-5, run of the mill, computer job. No weirder course schedules, no more pseudo 3rd shift B.S. and a blessed regular night of sleep and a healthy diet.

I really think that the thing I miss most from my old schedules, even the one before I started at the C-J, was the ability to eat a decent meal and get some real exercise. These are two things I never thought that I'd taken for granted.

Hopefully I'll find some way to settle into a better routine and pick back up all of the things I miss. Regardless, I'm looking forward to a trip (possibly two) out of town. It's going to be fun to watch UofL's football team squash USF's in two weeks.

Another night at the CJ

When I took this job they told me I'd be out by 3am at the latest most nights. To date I haven't been out earlier than 4am and most nights I'm here past that. One night I was here until after 8am. Maybe tonight is the night.

Moves, Gods, and more...

First up, the site move has finally been finished. Now the only thing holding it back is DNS propagation, though I know it’s working for most places I use the net. I’ve been spending way too much time on this move, but the last one was definitely worth it. I now have root access on a vserver instead of the old style hosting accounts, so I’m sure I’ll be doing more to the site now. As for why the last move took so long, I actually went through two hosts and had to move several sites that are live and in production (i.e. my ex's TeresaKay.com, a site for my dad’s law firm, my sister’s website, and several more of my own). I’ve paid for the current service for a year in advance, so there shouldn’t be anymore moves in the remote future, thankfully.

Speaking of that website, I want to thank Eric for the encouragement to continue blogging. It's always nice to know that someone out there actually reads this stuff.

Working on Systems

I've spent more time working on server related issues here lately then posting to the site. Fortunately though, this move should be the last. I've transfered most of the sites from the old hosting servers to this one and I'm mainly in the process of getting things working again. My current goal is to have it done by Sunday so I can get focused on writing on remotely interesting topics, such as the conference I just attended, or at least posting goofy pictures of people.

Well, back to work on this machine (at least I have root).

Considering the Bush Presidency

I'm blogging from Grand Rapids, MI today while attending an event/book release concerning the Bush Presidency. The event has been really interesting so far and I hope to post in more detail when I get back. In the meantime, I've started the move to a new service and I'm in the process of getting the new system up and working. Hopefully all of the sites that I'm currently hosting will be moved over and up on the new server within the week.

Site has been down

Some of you may have noticed some strange things going on with the site over the past few days. My webhost provider had some hardware problems that caused the server to be down for two days. They claim it was a hard drive failure, but anyone with any experience in computers would know that there's no reason for a HD failure to result in two days of downtime. (Especially since an one ISP was able to get back up and running 72 hours after being destroyed by a Tornado) Then the backups of my site, and of all the additional sites that I host, were corrupted. This normally would not be a big deal, but I didn't have backups of several things that had been added to the server. And finally, after getting them to recreate my account on the system, they have turned off several features that were available before and won't turn them back on in addition to denying shell access. So, I'm moving servers again. Everything should be fully functional within three-four days. Fortunately, I hadn't cancelled my old service entirely yet and that's where this site is right now.

Church

I finally joined a church this weekend for the first time since high school. I've been going to Southeast for over a year and I've constantly been promising myself I'd join since long before Teresa even moved. Saturday, after a sermon on keeping one's word, I finally kept my promise to myself.

New Job

I started a new job this past weekend. I'm now working as a Production Assistant in the Online Department at the Courier-Journal. So far it hasn't been a bad experience, though it's taking me a good deal of time to get use to staying up and working that late. Not because I don't normally stay up until 2am anyway, but since I'm working until then I can't get to sleep for a couple hours after that. Hopefully I'll find a rythm that works for me soon.

Dr. Who?

The Fourth DoctorYou are the Fourth Doctor: A walking Bohemian conundrum with a brooding personal magnetism and a first-rate intellect concealed somewhere beneath your charmingly goofy exterior. You are perhaps the most terribly clever of all the Doctors, though your occasional bouts of childishness get you in trouble. You never go looking for a fight, but when someone messes with you... good heavens, are they ever sorry they did.
